Brother Tyerrie, Start a new thread with same title modified to show Penn.37 if you'd like.

It is time to start putting this little thing together again.
Please post with any comments, ideas, concerns, etc.
Let us hope we have a larger turn out especially from the side of the Saracens.

Let us do a pole of what people would like to do this coming Pennsic.
1. Would you like to repeat the same scenarios or have different?
2. Do you have any suggestions to make this event better?
3. Would we like a gathering of some sort?
4. Would anyone be willing to host such a gathering?

personally i had a wonderful time in this battle. my kit left a bit to be desired though. the long shirt and head wrap i had planned on wearing got up and walked off in the middle of the night. working on a much more Varingian look for next year. HG Dag was a wonderful Richard, damn that axe of his and Vargas, at the risk of sounding like i have a man crush, ya took my breath away as Saladin. Tyrrie, your boys gave me a fun new bruise or two but i loved every second of it...yes, even when ya'll got the blood pouring out my forehead. Looking forward to next year. |

I certainly know I was inspired. Richard asked me to fight in it this past Pennsic, but i declined due to not having an appropriate kit. I regret that descision and wish i would have fought. I have begun working on a Saracen kit, but it is extremely possible that i will not be able to attend next Pennsic, so i will probably have to wait until the one after.

Just so you know it was His Grace's idea to ask you to be Saladin.
You did a magnificent job. Thank you so much. I know you were in pain and wanted to fight.
Yes if you would like to play the role again next year it is fine.
We were thinking of doing the same scenario as we did this year so people who could not participate due to conflicting battles and injuries could try to come next year. However Syr Bryce had the idea of possible doing the Battle of Mansurah
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Al_Mansurah
It is up to you all what we will do. Al Mansurah would be a town battle followed by a bridge? Or redo what we did and do a Castle seige and field battle? Or are there other ideas?
Please continue to work on your kits. We made a fine show last year.
Did you like the weapon restrictions?
Should we include Glaives?
It is hoped that after our efforts that people would be inspired to join in. Especially on the Saracen side. Hopefully this will be the case.
Again thank you all. It was awesome.

So planning for next year has already begun then?
I am woeful that I ended up missing this, especially after all the banter I added. (The field battles and Unbelts battle took their toll on my sword arm, as did the heat on my wellness, and I had to retire from the field ). Next year I shall be there. _________________ Cpt Denewulf Ivarsson, CSO Squire to Sir Ivar Idthur-Drengr Thegn-Skald of Haus Kriegsturm

Good to hear you are in good health and spirits at your oasis.
To clarify, the Franks were composed of Crusaders that also included many, many (well researched kits etc) Hospitallers adn Templars.
Without our Brothers in Black, the rest of us would have been hard pressed.
The event is still vivid in my memory. Alas I am not a poet or spinner of song though I did record the event for the Western Lands. _________________ A sure sign of a lunatic is that sooner or later, he brings up the Templars." -Umberto Eco

Greetings and Salutations to all.
From the depths of Surgery and recovery do I slowly, oh so slowly return.
I am sorry for seeming like I lost interest in this after it was done. Rest assured that is, was not the case.
This was without a doubt the best time I had at Pennsic. It was fantastic. I am sorry that our sides were so off. I am not sure what happened to the Islamic side. I was under the impression that there were to be more, I surmise that the allied heroes battle took away most of the forces. That coupled with the time of the battle, (it was a very, very long day) probably had something to do with it as well.
I cannot thank enough everyone that gave their time and all for the battle. I owe a great deal of thanks to the Varangian gaurd, in particular, Gunnar Redboar. Your honor on the field and your duel with HRH was very impressive and impeccably honorable. Thank you, thank, thank you.
I also owe a special thank you to his Grace Ragnvalder for participating on the side of the crescent. It brought me great joy.
This of course would not of happened without the side of the cross (obviously). It was an incredible site to see the templars form their mighty forces outisde the castle walls and watch them march down the field in song and praise of their savior. Very cool indeed.
To all of the forces on the side of the Crescent: again thank you, thank you. We were small but mighty and proved our worth in artes martial as well as honorably. AND HEY HOW ABOUT IX NOT WEARING THE CAT SUIT?! HUH, HUH!
Dag, your grace; thank you for playing Richard it was an honor to "act " against you. I am sorry that I was not able to personally offer single combat.
My final and greatest thanks goes to Tyrrie(sp) You were truly the force and idea behind this shindig. Bravo to your vision I am honored to be a part of it and Play Salaldin. And if you're curious would not mind doing it again. If you'll have it.
Now for my observations. The time was not the best slot. I understand the difficulty in scheduling, but perhaps we could do it before the official start? Or maybe after opeing ceremonies? Just a thought. There was a lack of communication as to the rules of engagement during the Castle siege. The crescent was allowed to res's due to the lack of forces we had. It was stated, but perhaps not enough. I'm not sure if any one complained on the Templar side, I'm just clarifying it. The field battle was on a limited front. Again due to lack of crescent forces. The Res point for the crescent was supposed to be me since I could not fight. It would of worked if itwasn't for those meddling kids Savaric and his co-hort. (not a bad run for a 41 year old IMO)
Next year it'll be different.
Finally I would be remissed and just plain rude if I didn't thank all of the non-coms that participated and or wathced the scenario, the Marshall's ,Water bearers and all that came in garb to support the look and feel of the game. (I love you honey. )
As I stated the day of this was not a battle of ideaology or socio-political statements; it was a true statement and attempt at what the game we so love is all about.
Again thank you to everyone for a great time.

I was thinking something like that, yes. Haven't really given it thought but maybe something where there is the battle at the landing, a town/house battle and a bridge or something....I will have to think about it.... |

I read this article and wonder how you would want to do this battle?
Would it be a town battle then a bridge?
Maybe we could do this?

I will check into using class space? Or, someone could volunteer to host it at their encampment?
