Weekly goal:
I'll be at fight practice Sunday to get (and hopefully give) more bruises. I'd really like to "return the favor" to Donas, but I think I'll be working on that goal for a while...
Short term goal:
I aim to get my two-stick auth before year's end
Long term goal:
After I get in the habit of fighting on a regular basis again, I'm going to seriously pursue becoming a warranted marshal. It's time.... _________________ "He who strikes after deserves a joyless art."

I hereby swear to, in the 3 months following this Pennsic War, go to a Chicago fight practice, get loaner gear, and start fighting again.
There comes a time in anyone's life when both mentally and physically, you need to stop just enjoying the easy sidelines, get over the fact that you're going to get hurt, and go and hit someone back.
(It should be pointed out that I am not all together giving up my easy-sidelines grasp on life, but this needs to happen)
Oh. And I swear to get to the archery field at least 3 times this war.

Khealan, thanks. I didn't take any photos. I suppose I should have but my motivation was more for the difference in overall mobility, health and gains in fighting. Those results were measurable and I noticed a positive difference there so that is what is keeping me at it. I understand that many folks start the programme and don't finish. Maybe that is a good way to pick up a cheap, 'used' programme? _________________ Make yourself as indestructible as possible.

Thank you Donas. I have been looking into it. It would be nice to know I am able and not waste any money. It looks like we are going to get a treadmill after the holidays. _________________ Drogo... Clueless since 1977.

dan, I can show you the book for it over here sometime. there is a pre-program fitness test that you need to be able to pass in order to assure that you won't injure yourself doing p90x. if ya pass it, then u know ur golden without having spent any money. if ya don't, then you'll have some concrete fitness goals to work at so that you CAN get on it!!! _________________ We have in the SCA the chance to become more than we could otherwise be in our mundane lives. It seems to be all over the place now Drogo. I picked mine up online. I have seen it a Wal-Mart. I have heard of others getting copies even. If you go to Beachbody.com you will be at the source. _________________ Make yourself as indestructible as possible.

After hearing Kasimir's success with P90X, specifically about the shoulder improvement (I have a similar issue with my left shoulder), I need to learn about this program. Is there a good source of information out there? Am I going to have to pay anything for the program? What do I need in terms of equipment? Any help would be appreciated. _________________ Drogo... Was away on a holiday three weeks ago now. Started the whole P90X programme all over again just over a week ago. Felt good to take a break. Felt good to start again. This time around adding to the intensity, based on records from last round. Feels good. Great challenge. Now that the process is familiar, there is a better ability to pace one's self.
So, week one done, started week two today. _________________ Make yourself as indestructible as possible.

However, I hearby Swear to not only get my ass back to fighting, but to actually figure out how to fight singles.
Well ,I made my return at All Souls. I didn't do as bad as i feared.
I plan to start making it to practice at least once a week, either Tuesday or Sunday.
Ideally I would like to do Tuesdays to learn, and Sundays to do practical exercises.

I really noticed a big difference in the improvement in core strength. I am not sure I have ever had the strength there like I do now. I see that as a plus in both fighting and general back health.
Another spinoff benefit - I had a shoulder injury from a snow boarding fall three years ago (disolocation and slight rotator cuff tear) That is not an issue any longer.
The challenge has been to not miss any days. That becomes problematic on fighting days. I purposefully did not change the routine's schedule so some fighting days were challenging. For example upper body work in the morning and then fighting in the evening at practice, I felt pretty 'bagged' some evenings. I may try to manage that better now that I have gone through the whole cycle.
There are many reasons to do this workout. The variety, the discipline, the pace, and the design were probably the top three to get well rounded physical results. I still find it tough getting up at 5:45 am to put in the hour and fifteen to hour and thirty minutes everyday before work. If I could get to bed earlier it wouldn't hurt but that doesn't seem to be possible around my house.
I guess there may be some testimony in the fact that my wife decided to join in on day 2 and has not missed a day either since then. We have started on the next 90 days and are reluctant to give it up, because the results keep coming.
When you consider that it is over an hour every day, I can't imagine not getting results. You would likely get that doing a lot of things if you put that much time and effort into it. What is nice about this program is that it gives you a course to follow that has a quick pace and a comprehensive approach to the whole body. You can't just concentrate on your favourite exercises.
Another advantage is that it is DVD based so you can do it at home, very little equipment, fitting it into your own schedule.
Tony Horton is the instructor. He has a little bit of Jim Carey in him. After 90 days some of his humour can get a little corny.

Nice job, Kas! I'd love to see a writeup on your experience: how it was, changes you noticed as you went through, how it affected your fighting, balance, quickness, etc.
I'm sure many here would be interested in hearing your views on it.
