My name is Lady Helena Sibylla, and I am the A&S Point Coordinator for Pennsic University this year. As the date of the war approaches, I write in search of your assistance to call up volunteers to help staff A&S Point and provide service to the attendees.
A&S Point shifts are short - only 2 hours for desk staff - beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 4 and ending on Friday, Aug. 13. Shift supervisors are also needed for 4 hour shifts. Individuals may also volunteer directly at A&S Point once Pennsic begins. A&S Point will be open on Aug. 1-3 from 1-4p.m. for instructor check-in, and volunteers can come for signup as well.
Please ask that any interested parties contact me directly at aspoint@pennsicwar.org

from Nigel: I have spoken to Sir Johannes and we have agreed to the rules for this years Combat of the Thirty.
Of course all kits must be appropriate for the 14th century. No sallets or barbutes. Bascinets should have an aventail. You need greaves. In essence you need to look right for the time of this Deed. Sir Johannes and myself will not let anyone enter this Deed if they do not have the appropriate harness.

Please post in the Legion Events section under Gulf Wars Prereg if you are going to Gulf Wars. Also add your tent size and when you are arriving. I am collecting this info to ensure we have enough space in the Midrealm camp area to accomodate us all.

You will pardon me if I do not yet wax poet6ic, as the blood still rushes in me, and I feel yet the heat of battle in my hands and heart.
It was a beutiful Scottish day - the sun was eclipsed by clouds, a drizzle covered everything, and a biting wind blew from the north. Upon the field Did the Middle Kingdom Assemble, with the Forces of the East allied with us - across the filed were Aethelmarc and Atlantia, mickle foes, to measure our worth as allies on the Fields of Pennsic.

Note: Thanks Malcom this was great. Please keep up the good work and thank you for caring on Rins Bardic greatness.

Interested in spiffing up your camp at one of the many wars this year? Dame Aoife can help! Hail, fellow campers!
Camping should be a joy and an experience of beauty when done inproper medieval style, not an experience to be suffered through. This issue of the Links List can help with that, as it is about camping with flair. Below you will find 31 links in all, with links for camp furniture and accessories to make your encampment the envy of your neighbors.
As always, please "pay it forward" and send the Links List along to others who might find it useful.
Cheers
Aoife

Slow to write as I am, here I finally go.
This was a part of the thought process I went through.
At first, I had no interest whatsoever in being on the team. Why would I want to put myself through that type of punishment? It has the reputation for being particularly brutal. I'd seen guys come off the field hurt after an unbelt practice more than in any other style of fighting. I saw how hard it looked like those guys were hitting, and it looked excessive. I saw people to the point of tears because they were so angry and frustrated that somebody didn't take their shots. I had heard about politics and hidden agendas. I had heard the murmer of the unbelted team being one of the necessary pieces to the cookie-cutter formula of being knighted.

At the second Fort Battle:
Knight A; "Just as I rushed in the King of the Middle shot me in the face with his bow. What was he doing with that."
Knight B; "Appearently pretty well."
Kinght A; "Yeah but I was not expecting them to have archery."
Kinght B; "I am sure neither did Harold at Hastings either. 'Who said they can bring arrows? OW! my eye!"
And in my encampment the next day:
Mother to Daughter with a butterfly net in her hand running about the camp; "What are you doing?"
Daughter; "Trying to catch bad monarchs."
Bystander; "They are out on the fighting field, honey"
"In retrospect, I suppose that wasn't a very good idea at all."
Said by a fellow just as some of us were diving for cover after he tossed a gallon jug of citronella fuel on a roaring fire.
"Underwear is not period clothing."

Anyone need mud flips, favors, tabards, and so on? Let me know please and please don't wait. I have three order for mud flips and I'll get them out this week.
Also Commanders Please check with your people and let me know who needs a fighting favor. Anyone who have fought with us for two years or more. Also in the future we would like to have a new kind for people who have fought at Pennsic for 10, 15, and 20 years. It will be a kind of Roman war shield design.
Thanks Calador, Cont I
Note: p.s. please don't wait to the last minute.

"How they do it - In short, stealth and intelligence.
Sneak and peek as we always called it in the cav.
The following formula makes it easy for a scout to do an outstanding job."
S. A. L. U. T. E.
What does the mean?
It is a list of information that a scout needs to make when observing an enemy unit.

Ilsebet's Notes from the Pennsic Roundtable Discussion
April 23, 2003
The following are the notes I've jotted down from the Roundtable discussion held just after the Barony of Roaring Wastes meeting last night. These are in no particular order other than how I jotted them down and remembered others that I didn't write down specifically. If there's other tips, tricks, links, etc., you remember hearing about, please add them in the comments!
Note: Thanks for the overview!
