Medieval combat is one of the most unique and attention grabbing activites in the SCA. While men and women fighting in armor looks dangerous, injuries other than the odd bruise are rare. The SCA has strict rules on fighting, the first and foremost being that each figher on the field has honor. The fighter keeps faith with his honor by accepting blows that would be killing or wounding, had they been dealt with an actual weapon. Our fighters are attempting to recreate fights that would have occured when two armed knights were unhorsed and had to fight on the ground. It resembles nothing so much as medieval foot tournaments. There are two basic types of SCA fights: single combat, and group or team battles knows as melees. We have two types of combat; "heavy", or combat in armor using rattan swords, and fencing, which uses fencing foils very similar to those used in Olympic fencing. Once a month, we also have heavy and fencing practices for youth. For further information on youth "boffers" please contact Nyilas Kazmer. For youth fencing, please contact Michael McCay. The Marshall in Charge of both fight practices is Brannos O'Irongardail, KSCA, OP, also known as Matthew Muller. Please contact him about loaner armor, or for further details on fighting in the SCA. Phone number: (586) 558-7640 EST.
